"We don't sell your data" is the most repeated line in tech and the least believed, for good reason. Companies that say it usually mean they don't hand a spreadsheet to a third party. They still build a profile of you and rent access to it, which is advertising.
So instead of the slogan, here is the actual mechanism: how POINT is paid for, what that means we collect, and what we structurally can't do.
The business model is the privacy policy
A social network's privacy practices follow from its revenue, not from its promises.
An ad-funded network has to know as much about you as possible, because that's what it sells: the ability to show a message to exactly the people most likely to act on it. Every feature decision tilts toward more data and more time on the app.
POINT's revenue is memberships that members choose to buy. That changes what's worth collecting. We have no reason to know what you read on other sites, where you go, or who you message, because none of it earns us anything. The incentive runs the other way: the less we hold, the less can go wrong.
What we charge for
The free account is the product, not a trial. Your Space, friends, feed, posts, photos, video, groups, events, messages, all of it.
POINT+ ($5.99/month) is for people who want their Space to look exactly like them: premium themes, backgrounds, fonts, any accent color, more widgets, bigger uploads, Space analytics, and a + badge you can hide.
Creator ($4.99/month) adds followers, a one-way public connection with no request, plus a creator line, a featured post and audience analytics. It stacks with POINT+ because a creator is still a person with friends.
Business ($4.99/month) is a separate business Space with hours, contact details, services, a call-to-action button, followers and posts as the business. Business+ adds a team, advanced analytics and lead forms.
What none of them do: change ranking, reach, or who sees your posts. There's no ranking to change.
What we collect
Plainly:
- What you give us. Email, name, date of birth (we need to know you're 13 or older), your Space, posts, photos, messages. Your phone number only if you choose to add it for friend-finding and security codes.
- What the service needs to run. Device and log data with hashed IP addresses, kept briefly for security.
- Where you are, roughly. Your device's time zone, so birthday notifications arrive at 9 AM your time rather than ours. Not your location.
What we don't collect: anything from other apps or sites, your contacts (contact matching happens on your phone; only one-way hashes are compared and nothing is stored), or your precise location.
Who else touches it
Service providers, each for one job: email delivery, text messages for verification codes, card processing on the web (we never see card numbers), and push notification delivery through Apple, Google and Expo. These are processors working for us under contract, not buyers.
Controls that actually exist
- Download your data. One click in Settings produces a file with everything: account, Space, posts with photo links, comments, reactions, friends, groups, events, albums, messages, saved posts.
- Delete your account. Yourself, from Settings, immediately. Gone from backups within 30 days.
- Privacy per block. Your whole Space can be friends-only, or you can set each block, your links, song, interests, Top Friends, photos, to everyone or friends only.
- Posts are friends-only by default. You choose public per post.
- Birthday. Friends see month and day, never the year. Or nobody.
Why we're telling you this
Because "trust us" is worthless and "here's the mechanism" isn't. If POINT ever started running ads, this page would be the first thing that had to change, and you'd know.
The free account is free. The paid ones buy tools. Nobody buys you.
