Post a photo to Instagram, come back an hour later, and count the people who saw it against the people who follow you. The gap is the ranking system. It isn't broken, it's working exactly as designed: your photo competes against reels, suggested accounts and ads for a slot in each friend's feed, and most of the time it loses.
Here's the alternative that works differently, and the honest list of who it's for.
What "no algorithm" means for photos
On POINT your Home feed is your friends' posts and your groups, newest first. There is no ranking step. If you post a photo at 7:00 and your friend opens POINT at 7:10, your photo is at the top. Not "likely to be shown." At the top.
The second half of it: there's nothing in between. No reels from strangers, no suggested posts, no ads. The feed is shorter and that's intentional. You finish it. People stop scrolling and start commenting because the only things to react to are from people they know.
Where the photos live
- Posts take up to 20 photos. Your friends see them in a grid, tap to open, swipe through.
- Albums on your Space hold the collections: the trip, the kid's season, the build. They stay on your page instead of disappearing down a feed.
- Your Space is a page, not a grid. Theme, background, a song if you want one, Top Friends, interests and links. The photos sit in something that looks like you.
Who it's for
It's for people who post for the people they know. The friend group, the family, the team, the club. If the number that matters to you is "did my people see it," POINT is built for that number.
If you're building a public audience, read the next part honestly.
Who it's not for (yet)
If your goal is reach among strangers, an algorithm is actually your friend, and Instagram's is the best in the world at it. POINT doesn't manufacture reach. Public Spaces can be found through search and the public directory, friends of friends surface in Explore, and Creator memberships add tools for people building a following. But there is no engine deciding to show your photo to ten thousand people who didn't ask. If that's the job, keep Instagram for it and use POINT for the people who already care.
Moving your photos over
You don't have to. Start fresh with the photos from this month and let your albums grow. If you want your Instagram archive, request your data from Instagram, pull the photos you care about, and build albums on your Space from them. Your originals are yours either way.
The short version
Instagram shows your photos to the people its system picks. POINT shows them to your friends, in order, every time, with nothing in between. One of those is designed for advertisers. Pick the one designed for you.
