How to get the POINT app on Android and iPhone

POINT is on Google Play now. Here's how to install it, what to do if you tested an early build, where the iPhone app stands, and how to use POINT on any phone in the meantime.

Short version: Android is on Google Play today, iPhone is in Apple's review queue, and the web app works on everything right now.

Android

Open Google Play, search for POINT by Aftershock Network, and install it. Or go to welcometopoint.com on your phone and tap Get it on Google Play. Sign in with the account you already have, or create one in the app in about a minute.

If you were one of the people who sideloaded an early build from our site before the store listing went live: thank you, and please uninstall it before installing from the store. Android treats the two as different apps because they're signed with different keys, so the store version won't install over the top of the test one. Your account, friends, posts and photos are all on the server. Nothing on the phone matters.

Once the store version is on, updates arrive through Google Play like any other app.

iPhone

The iPhone app is built and has been submitted to Apple. It's waiting on App Store review, which we don't control. The moment it's approved the link goes on the homepage and we'll tell everyone who's signed up.

In the meantime POINT works fully on iPhone in Safari. Go to welcometopoint.com, sign in, tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen. You get an icon, it opens full screen, and it's the same POINT.

What's different in the app

Honestly, not a lot, which is the point. The app and the web are the same POINT with the same account. The app adds the things a browser can't do well: push notifications for messages, comments and friend requests, a camera roll that opens straight into the composer, and a home feed that loads faster because it's native.

What the app will never do: show you ads, rank your feed, or auto-play things you didn't ask for. Same rules as the website.

The two-minute setup

  1. Install, then sign up or sign in.
  2. Pick your username. That becomes your page: yourpointspace.com/u/your-name.
  3. Put a photo and a line about yourself on your Space. You can change the theme and the rest later.
  4. Add the friends you actually know. Friendship is two-way, so they'll confirm.
  5. Post something. Your friends see it in order, every time.

If something in the app doesn't work, email support@welcometopoint.com with your phone model and what happened. A real person reads it.

Questions people ask

Is POINT on the Google Play Store?
Yes. Search for POINT by Aftershock Network on Google Play, or go to welcometopoint.com and tap Get it on Google Play.
Is there an iPhone app?
It has been submitted to Apple and is waiting on App Store review. Until it's approved, the web app at welcometopoint.com works on iPhone, and you can add it to your home screen.
I installed an early test build. Do I need to do anything?
Yes. The test build was signed differently from the store version, so uninstall it first, then install from Google Play. Your account and everything in it are on the server, nothing is lost.
Does the app cost anything?
No. The app and the Personal account are free. Optional memberships exist, but nothing in the free account is locked.

Try the thing we’re describing.

POINT is free, there are no ads, and your feed is your friends in order. Your page lives at yourpointspace.com/u/you. Takes two minutes.
